The US is happily digging its grave
The decision-makers in Washington obviously have to think that people around the world are stupid. Now that's a bold sentence to open an article. Isn't it?
First, they put sanctions on China in the form of the CHIPS and Science Act, and one has to admit that this was a real blow for Beijing. How can you tell? Well, they did nothing and went graveyard silent. Although at first shell-shocked by these regulations, it was more than clear that this state won't last forever. The Chinese leadership knows how to steer their country and probably right at this very moment is throwing trainloads of money into chip research. Other nations forced by the US to join the China chip sanctions which are supposed to disrupt their development seem not to be that dedicated to this endeavor. But that is not the worst problem. It took China a while but they have struck back with their own sanctions against Micron, and... all hell broke loose.
As we can read in a Reuters piece from the 27th of May:
"The United States "won't tolerate" China's effective ban on purchases of Micron Technology memory chips and is working closely with allies to address such "economic coercion," U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said on Saturday."
So the US "won't tolerate" but China should "tolerate" the actions of the US in the microchips sphere?
Around the world, there are millions of people smarter than me. They all live in developing countries that are starting to get traction and push their economies forward. Whom will they choose from the two? The US that is acting like the all-mighty and pointing fingers with an ex-cathedra attitude? Or maybe they will go the China way with the win-win strategy served by Xi?
If someone in Washington thinks that people around the world don't see such things then they are completely wrong. People are not stupid. These are the last moments to change the attitude and try to reverse the harm that is already done. The China-Russia alliance is changing the world with the help of the BRICS which is rapidly growing. At this point probably more than half of the world is in that camp and the US is doing everything in its power to grow that camp. This is beyond my imagination but... it is happening and at this point, it looks like that there will be no changing course but more doubling down on the same methods... that doesn't work. Dark days are ahead for us but it still isn't too late. Wake up Washington! There are many still counting on you!
